Merganser Blue has provided me with 8 seasons of sheer delight on Narragansett Bay. Solid like all Sea Sprites, her light balanced helm is a joy to steer. While she might dip her lee rail in 20 knots to let you know you are overcanvassed, she never lets you feel uneasy. I have had her rigged to make singlehanding easier, with self-tailing winches, jib roller furler, halyards and reefing lines led to cockpit; for the second reef you do have to get to the mast. All hardware upgrades were carried out by New England Yacht Rigging. The boom tent has kept her cockpit well protected from sun and weather; I had it customized to Velcro around the jacklines. Her Awlgrip paint has held up well. She taught my wife to sail, and we have had many enjoyable weekends aboard. But for moving up to a Sea Sprite 34, we would not part with her.
