This series will be open to Sea Sprite 23’s and J22s who are members of either the Sea Sprite Association or the J22 Class. Sea Sprite skippers must be a member of the SS Association. To join the Sea Sprite Association, go to the Association website at http://www.seaspriteassociation.com.

Rules:

The regatta will be governed by the rules, as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2021-2024, this Notice of Race, and the Sailing Instructions. This NOR and the SI will be published on the Bristol Yacht Club website under “Racing”, as well as on the Sea Sprite Association website.

Boats must conform to the Class Rules as specified on the Sea Sprite 23 Association website, and on the J22 Association website.

Schedule:

First Warning signal for the Sea Sprite class is scheduled at 1300 hours on Saturday July 23, 2022. Two races are scheduled for the Sea Sprite class on Saturday only. There will be a prize giving and pizza after racing on Saturday for the Sea Sprites.

First warning signal for the J22 class is scheduled at 1200 hours. Further racing will follow for the J22s on Saturday. First warning signal for the J22s on Sunday, July 24 will be at 1100 hours, with further racing to follow. No warning signal will be made after 1500 hours on Sunday. Prizes will be awarded for the J22s following the conclusion of racing on Sunday.

Racing Area:

The starting and finishing area will be in the vicinity of lower Bristol Harbor. Courses will be described in the Sailing Instructions.

Scoring:

The regatta will be scored according to the low point scoring system in Appendix A in the Racing Rules. Trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each class in the regatta.

Each participating boat must be insured with valid third-party insurance.

Fees and Registration

The entry fee for the Sea Sprites in this event is $40/boat, which includes pizza at the prize giving ceremony for skippers and crew.

The entry fee for J22s is $100/boat, which includes 4 drink tickets.

The entry fees for both classes include overnight docking or moorings for those who need it, which can be arranged in advance at registration.

Registration will be online at the regatta website on Clubspot, and must be completed on or before July 20h. There will be a link on the Bristol Yacht Club website, but the entry page can also be accessed with the link below:

2021 Sea Sprite Race Around Hog Island Notice of Race

Organizing Authority: Sea Sprite Association and Bristol Yacht Club Rules:

This is a fun race governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024, and the Sea Sprite Association Class Rules. There is no protest committee. The start of the race will be conducted by the RC of the Bristol Yacht Club. Racers will take their own finishing order.

Two large inflatable buoys will mark the start and finish lines. The race will be either clockwise or counterclockwise, depending upon the wind direction. The direction of the race will be announced by the Race Committee on Channel 71 prior to the warning signal the day of the race.

Eligibility and Entries:

Entrants must be current members of the Sea Sprite Association for 2021. There will be no entry fee.

There will be a post-race social gathering immediately following at the Bristol Yacht Club. The bar will be available and pizzas will be furnished for hungry sailors.

Classes to race: Sea Sprite 23 daysailer and weekender models.

The race will begin at 1:00pm. Race announcements will be announced on Channel 71.

The fastest Sea Sprite skipper will be awarded the Mr. Hog Trophy to be held for one year.

2021 S/I Round The Hog

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

2021 ‘ ROUND THE HOG

1.0 Rules

This fun race will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024, class rules, as well was good and prudent seamanship and common sense. There is no protest committee. A BYC race committee will start the race, but finishers must take their own finish order.

2.0 Schedule Of Races

On Saturday September 11th, at approximately 12:59pm, one minute before the first warning signal, there will be a fleury of sound signals. The first warning signal will be approximately at 1:00 pm for a race start at 1:05pm. 

3.0 The Course

The course will be around Hog Island either clockwise or counterclockwise to be determined and announced on Channel 71 by 12:45pm. In the event of extremely light air, the course may be shortened to a rounding of a single aid to navigation (either Bristol Point RN “2” or Poppasquash Point RB “1”) in consultation with all racers on channel 71.

4.0 The Start and The Finish

The starting line and the finishing line will be located just south of the mooring area of Bristol Harbor. The marks for the start/finish line will be two inflatable buoys. The start will be horn signals provided by the Race Committee. The starting sequence will consist of a pre-warning series of 5 short blasts followed in approximately 1 to 2 minutes by one long blast at 5 minutes to start, at 4 minutes to start, at 1 minute to start, and at the start. Boats are responsible for thanking their own finishing time/order. There may be no RC boat at the finishing line.

5.0 Communications

All racers will stay tuned to and communicate on Channel 71. No check in required.

6.0 Areas That Are Obstructions

The areas between the following aids to navigation and the adjacent land are obstructions at all times and must not be crossed. If either RN”2″ off Bristol Point or RB “1” off Poppasquash Point are used as a rounding mark for a shortened course, the rounding should be close and the area of obstruction exited as soon as possible.

7.0 Corrections
